Thankful Tuesday: Short Moments, Monumental Impact

I'm blessed to be in a position that allows me to encounter so many people. Some, I have the honor of seeing regularly. Others, it's a one-time conversation.

There are people that have came into my life that I don't truly know, but have made a monumental impact in my being. Today, I celebrate them- the ones I will never forget despite brief encounters.
I remember the day I fell to my knees and gave my heart to our creator. The man who shared God's love during the church service that day was a guest. His devotion to Christ amazed me. It was then that I listened to God and surrendered. The guest didn't know me and I didn't know him. Yet, he will forever be in my life.

Another is a former college instructor. Yes, I spent more time in this man's presence, but I never had a one-on-one conversation. The course was the most challenging of my undergraduate career, but it sparked the pathway to my professional career. There was one assignment that counted for a large portion of the grade and I spent more time on the project than any other I can recall. I wanted a good grade, but more so, I wanted to show my ability to succeed in the subject area. As the instructor returned the graded assignments, I was nervous. I opened my folder to see "A" and a note stuck in the other folder pocket. This wasn't a brief note congratulating me. It was a full-page letter celebrating my accomplishment, encouraging me to pursue a career in the field and challenging me to excel academically. One sentence read, "I will be disappointed if you do not pursue graduate school." So, I did. It's been eight years since I graduated and I still remember that sentence. This individual's one act impacted my life, forever.

More recently, I have shared brief moments with creatives. These individuals are inspiring and I admire their commitment to staying true to their vision and not compromising to please critics. Finding confidence in your work is difficult; when it's your creations, it becomes more personal. But, hold tight.

There are too many encounters to share, but my heart is full. I can only hope to impact another as those in my path have impacted me.
