Lean Out

One of the most important lessons my parents have taught me is to not let your circumstance stand in the way of doing [insert action here].

What does love look like?

We see it in their smile, we hear it in their voice, and we feel it in their touch. We put our trust in it. We put our present and future in it.

The Oath

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind filled with urgent, life-changing decisions while gearing up for many exciting work, church and personal endeavors. Many, many prayers were heard and answered (in unexpected ways) and others not answered. It all led up to a moment in my life that will remain with me forever and drew me and my husband closer as a couple and followers of Christ.

Duck, Duck, Beach

This year's vacation took us back to OBX, NC and it (once again) did not disappoint. The weather was perfect every single day. The temp never rose above 82 and that ocean breeze stayed with us during our time there.

While making our way to Corolla to take a wild horse tour (more on that later), we passed through the cutest town and knew we had to make the short drive from Salvo back up to Duck to soak in the town's charm and treasures. For my SWVA folks, it's a lot like Abingdon but on the coastline.

SHOP + SUPPORT

Monday is quickly approaching.

It is a time designated to remember the fallen. The men, women, sons, fathers, brothers, daughters, mothers, sisters, caregivers- lives given for you and me. I so often hear and see our military servicemen and servicewomen refer to themselves as "second."

It's a profound thought.
To all who serve, have served and plan to serve- Thank you and prayers are with you!
To those missing their loved ones- Thank you and prayers are with you!

Today's post was inspired by these brave souls and by our community's proud display of American love. Read the story here.

A TIME TO COOK

I have one goal for this year (and really for whatever remains of my time here).

I've always been a planner. A clock ruled my life. What time is it? What time will I do... What time will I be... It was a cycle that never deviated. I like to experience, though, so I decided to step out of the circle. Like the roads that twist through these hills, there are paths off to the sides waiting to introduce you to what lies just out of view. Living according to a plan is confining myself (and my loved ones) to boundaries. It's too easy to miss out and turn living into a routine.

So, I hope to try something new (for me) weekly. There is no definition to the "new." Don't you love that?

Travis is now on vacation. Three full weeks of no time to report here or there. How did we start his vacation? Cooking. That's right. I said cooking.

A DIRECTION UNKNOWN

It's been months since the cursor graced this space. When I saw the date of the most written post I thought there must be some mistake. But, there is no mistake. I knew this semester would prove challenging. Apparently, "my" time was more scarce than I anticipated. I had also become unsure of the direction of this blog. Professionals, myself included, suggest choosing a niche and establishing your following within that landscape. I lost my passion for the blog. I didn't lose my passion for writing, however.

In reflecting, I decided to continue sharing "me" through this medium.

Happy New Year!

I can't resist... I have to say... It's my first post of 2015!
